Historical Monuments in the City

Lucknow is a city which is known for its history. The city used to be ruled by the erstwhile Nawabs who have contributed significantly towards the architectural heritage of the region. One of the finest historical structures here which you can visit is the Imambara. This is a place which the Nawab built as his mansion to provide employment to the people of the region. There is also a labyrinth inside the Imambara which is known as Bhul Bhullaiya.

The neighbouring areas of Imambara are also having many monuments like Ghanta Ghar or the Clock Tower, the Satkhanda which was supposed to be of 7 floors but couldn’t be completes. There is also La Martiniere College or the Constantia building which is popular tourist attraction. The building was built in the year 1757 by the French businessman Claude Martin and after his death he wanted it to be made into a school. Today the Constantia is an All Boys School and also one of the oldest in the country. You will love the superb historical architecture of the building.

Lucknow is also the place where the first war of independence made a huge impact. You should make a visit to the residency which was burnt by the rebel sepoys of the British. The place today is in ruins and also have grave of many of the British generals who were posted here during the times. Lucknow is a city which is also known for many of the spiritual sites.
